Villaba, Leyte was discovered by Boholano traders. These traders landed on the Western Coast and found fertile plants, since then, they built their houses along the river and forest and eventually progressed. Along the river, grow in abundance luxuriant trees called “HINDANG”. Hence the settlers called the river “HAMINDANGON”.
It
is one of a coastal municipality in the province of Leyte, Philippines. The
municipality is politically subdivided into 35 barangays, namely: Apolinario
Tumamak, Abijao, Balite, Bangkal, Cabungahan, Cagnocot, Cahigan, Calbugos,
Campurog, Canquiason, Capinyahan, Casili-on, Catagbacan, Fatima, Hibulangan,
Hinabuyan, Iligay, Jalas, Jordan, Libagong, New Balanac, Payao, Poblacion del
Norte, Poblacion del Sur, Sambulaw, San Francisco, San Vicente, Santa Cruz,
Silad, Suba, Sulpa, Tabunok, Tagbubunga, Tinghob. According to the 2020 census,
it has a population of 42,859 people.
The
name Villaba is a combination of Villa and Alba which bears and English
translation of “house of flowers”. Villa Alba Festival showcases the
Villabanon’s strong commitment of building “a house of values” which center in
the solidarity of family as a foundation of spirituality anchored in the Gospel
Values and Christian Teaching. The festival also builds “a house of change”
which motives our Villabanon’s millennials to make a difference and become catalyst
of change using social media platforms as a medium of responsible information
dissemination. It creates “a house of hope” that encourages all Villabanon’s to
be resilient in all the battles of life. After all, we are engineers and
architects in our own life. Armed with determination, we can build a good and
happy life. Villa Alba elaborates the beauty and fragrance of the flowers which
reflect the genuine characters of the Villabanon’s. our sweetness is expressed
through our warmth and hospitality like the nectar of the festive rhythm of the
nature. It is the Villabanon’s humble way of expressing our gratitude to Senor
Sto. Nino for the countless blessings endowed upon us. A festive celebration
offered to the glory of the Holy Child Jesus, our protector and intercessor through
our creative dance of thanks giving ambrosial banquet of grace in the harmony
of colors and synchronization of figures animated by the beat of the drums.
Villaba is a house of Flowers and the town of Brave the word itself.
It is a 3rd class
municipality in the province of Leyte. Where most of the economic activities,
livelihood and sources of income of the people are; Farming, Fishing and buying
and Selling of goods and services.
