DAILY BREAD: July 22, 2025 / Matthew 6:19-21 - The True Measure of Richness

 Hello, dear readers!

Today, let’s reflect on a word that carries so much weight in the world—Richness. Many people chase it, some worship it, and others are deceived by it. But what does the Bible really say about being rich? Is it wrong to have wealth? Or is there a deeper kind of richness that God calls us to pursue?

As a blogger preaching the Word of God, I want to remind you today that God is not against riches—but He is against riches that take His place in our hearts. True richness, according to Scripture, is not about what’s in your bank account, but what’s in your heart.

📖 What Does the Bible Say About Richness?

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth... But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven... For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”Matthew 6:19–21

Jesus didn’t say wealth is sinful—but He did warn us to be careful where we store our treasures. Earthly riches fade, but heavenly riches are eternal.

💡 Three Biblical Lessons About Richness

1. God is the Source of All Blessings

“But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth.”Deuteronomy 8:18

We must never forget—whatever we have, whether material or spiritual, comes from God. If we are blessed financially, it is not to glorify ourselves, but to glorify Him and help others.

2. Don’t Let Riches Rule Your Heart

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.”1 Timothy 6:10

Money itself is not evil—but the love of money is dangerous. It can corrupt motives, divide families, and distance us from God. That’s why we must guard our hearts from greed and selfishness.

3. True Richness is Found in Christ

“You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.”2 Corinthians 8:9

Jesus gave up heaven’s riches to make us spiritually rich. When we receive His love, grace, and salvation, we become heirs to the Kingdom—that’s true wealth!

🔍 A Challenge to Reflect

  • Are you chasing worldly wealth more than eternal purpose?

  • Is your heart more focused on success or surrender?

  • How can you use your resources—big or small—for God’s glory?

Remember: You may not be rich in the world’s eyes, but if you have Jesus, you already have everything.

💬 Your Thoughts Matter!

Do you struggle with the desire for more riches? Or have you seen God bless you and challenge you to use it wisely?

💌 Share your story or insights in the comments. Let’s encourage each other to be rich in faith, love, and good works.

🙏 May we learn to count our blessings not by what we have in hand, but by what we hold in our hearts. In Christ, we are already rich beyond measure.
