DAILY BREAD: JANUARY 12, 2024 / The Women of the Bible: Created from Man, Equal to Man

The Bible is full of stories of women who played important roles in God’s plan of salvation. From Eve to Mary, the women of the Bible show us the beauty, dignity, and strength of womanhood. They also teach us about God’s design for marriage and family, and His purpose for creating us male and female.
One of the key verses that reveals God’s intention for creating woman is Genesis 2:23, where Adam says:
The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”

This verse shows us three important truths about the women of the Bible and the women of today:
1. Woman was created from man, not after man.
The Bible tells us that God created woman from the rib of Adam, while he was in a deep sleep. This means that woman was not an afterthought, or a second-class creation, but a deliberate and intentional act of God. God did not create woman from the dust of the ground, like He did for man, but from the very substance of man, to show their intimate connection and relationship.
Woman was created from man, not after man, to show that she is his equal, his partner, and his companion. She is not inferior to him, nor superior to him, but complementary to him. She is not his rival, nor his servant, but his helper. She is not his possession, nor his property, but his gift.

2. Woman was created for man
The Bible tells us that God created woman because He saw that it was not good for man to be alone. God said:
“It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

This means that woman was created for a specific purpose: to be a helper suitable for man. The word “helper” does not imply inferiority or subordination, but rather assistance and support. The same word is used to describe God Himself, who is our helper and our refuge. The word “suitable” means that woman was designed to match man, to correspond to him, and to complete him.

Woman was created for man, not from man, to show that she is his ally, his friend, and his lover. She is not his competitor, nor his enemy, but his supporter. She is not his burden, nor his problem, but his blessing. She is not his distraction, nor his temptation, but his delight.

3. Woman was created with man, not without man.
The Bible tells us that God created woman and brought her to Adam, who recognized her as his own. Adam said:
“This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.”

This means that woman was created with man, not without man, to show that they belong together, and that they are one flesh. God did not create woman separately from man, but from his side, to show their closeness and unity. God did not create woman before man, or after man, but with man, to show their coexistence and harmony.

Woman was created with man, not without man, to show that she is his counterpart, his mate, and his wife. She is not his stranger, nor his outsider, but his insider. She is not his division, nor his separation, but his union. She is not his isolation, nor his loneliness, but his companionship.

Conclusion
The women of the Bible are examples of God’s wonderful creation of woman. They show us that woman was created from man, for man, and with man, to be his equal, his partner, and his companion. They also show us that woman was created to reflect God’s image and glory, and to fulfill His will and mission.

As women of God, we can learn from the women of the Bible, and follow their footsteps of faith, courage, and love. We can also celebrate our identity and destiny as women, and embrace our role and responsibility as helpers, supporters, and blessers of men. We can also honor and respect our husbands, if we are married, and our brothers, if we are single, as the leaders, protectors, and providers of our families.

We are the women of the Bible, created from man, equal to man, and one with man. We are the women of God, created for His glory, and for His purpose. We are the women of faith, created to love Him, and to love others. We are the women of the Bible, and we are beautiful, dignified, and strong.
