DAILY BREAD: JANUARY 2, 2024 / How to Trust God When Everything Seems Impossible

Have you ever faced a situation that seemed impossible to overcome? Maybe you were struggling with a health issue, a financial problem, a broken relationship, or a personal dream that seemed out of reach. How did you feel? Did you feel hopeless, frustrated, angry, or fearful? Did you wonder where God was and why He wasn’t answering your prayers?

If you can relate to any of these feelings, you are not alone. Many people in the Bible faced impossible situations, and they had to learn to trust God in the midst of their circumstances. One of them was Abram, who later became Abraham, the father of faith.

The Promise of God
In Genesis 15, we read that God made a covenant with Abram, promising to give him a son and a land. God said to him, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” (Genesis 15:5)
This was an amazing promise, but there was one problem: Abram and his wife Sarai were old and childless. They had been waiting for a son for many years, but nothing had happened. How could they possibly have a child at their age? How could they inherit a land when they were living as nomads in a foreign country? How could they become a great nation when they had no descendants?

The Response of Faith
How did Abram respond to God’s promise? Did he doubt, question, or laugh? Did he ask for a sign, a proof, or a guarantee? No, he did something remarkable. He believed. The Bible says, “Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.” (Genesis 15:6)

Abram trusted God’s word, even though it seemed impossible. He did not look at his own limitations, but at God’s power. He did not focus on his own circumstances, but on God’s character. He did not rely on his own understanding, but on God’s wisdom. He believed that God was able to do what He had promised, and that He was faithful to keep His covenant.

The Reward of God
Abram’s faith was not in vain. God rewarded him for his trust. In due time, God gave him a son, Isaac, through whom the nation of Israel was born. God also gave him the land of Canaan, where his descendants settled and prospered. God also blessed him with a great name, a great reputation, and a great influence. God also made him a blessing to all the families of the earth, through whom the Savior, Jesus Christ, came into the world.

Abram’s faith was not only rewarded in this life, but also in the next. He became the father of all who believe, and he inherited the heavenly city, the new Jerusalem, where he will dwell with God forever. He is now called the friend of God, and he is honored as a hero of faith.

The Application for Us
What can we learn from Abram’s example? How can we trust God when everything seems impossible? Here are some practical steps we can take:

Remember God’s promises. God has given us many precious and very great promises in His word, the Bible. He has promised to love us, to forgive us, to save us, to guide us, to protect us, to provide for us, to heal us, to comfort us, to strengthen us, to sanctify us, to use us, and to reward us. He has promised to never leave us nor forsake us, to be with us always, to work all things for our good, and to complete the good work He began in us. He has promised to give us eternal life, a glorious body, a heavenly home, and a glorious inheritance. He has promised to come again and take us to be with Him forever. Let us meditate on these promises and claim them by faith.

Rely on God’s power. God is not limited by our human impossibilities. He is the Creator of the universe, the Almighty, the Sovereign, the Omnipotent. He can do anything He pleases, and nothing is too hard for Him. He can create something out of nothing, He can make the dead alive, He can make the barren fruitful, He can make the weak strong, He can make the foolish wise, He can make the poor rich, He can make the broken whole, He can make the impossible possible. He can do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us. Let us depend on His power and not on our own.

Rest on God’s character. God is not only powerful, but also good, faithful, loving, gracious, merciful, compassionate, wise, and holy. He is not a liar, a deceiver, a manipulator, or a tyrant. He is not a distant, indifferent, or uncaring God. He is not a harsh, cruel, or unjust God. He is a personal, intimate, and caring God. He is a generous, kind, and gentle God. He is a righteous, just, and fair God. He is a trustworthy, reliable, and dependable God. He is a covenant-keeping, promise-fulfilling, and oath-honoring God. He is a God who delights in doing good to His children, who gives good gifts to those who ask Him, who does not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly. Let us rest on His character and not on our own.

Wait on God’s timing. God is not slow, late, or delayed. He is not in a hurry, impatient, or restless. He is not bound by our human calendars, clocks, or deadlines. He is not subject to our human expectations, demands, or ultimatums. He is the Lord of time, the Master of seasons, the Ruler of history. He has a perfect plan, a perfect purpose, and a perfect schedule. He knows the end from the beginning, and He works everything according to His will. He acts in His own time, in His own way, and for His own glory. He makes everything beautiful in its time, and He fulfills His promises at the right time. Let us wait on His timing and not on our own.

Dear friend, if you are facing an impossible situation today, do not lose hope, do not give up, do not despair. Trust God, who can do the impossible. He has a promise for you, He has a power for you, He has a character for you, He has a timing for you. He loves you, He cares for you, He is with you, He is for you. He will not fail you, He will not forsake you, He will not disappoint you, He will not abandon you. He will fulfill His word, He will accomplish His purpose, He will display His glory, He will reward your faith. Trust Him, and you will see His salvation. Trust Him, and you will experience His joy. Trust Him, and you will inherit His kingdom. Trust Him, and you will become His friend. Trust Him, and you will be a blessing to others. Trust Him, and you will be like Abram, the father of faith. Trust Him, and you will be a child of God.

An inspiration story of Trusting God

Anna was a young woman who loved God and wanted to serve Him. She had a passion for music and dreamed of becoming a worship leader someday. She practiced her guitar and singing skills every day, and joined the church choir and band. She also volunteered at a local orphanage, where she taught the children songs and stories about God.

One day, as she was driving home from the orphanage, a storm suddenly hit. The rain was pouring down, the wind was howling, and the thunder was roaring. Anna tried to keep calm and drive carefully, but she could barely see the road. She prayed to God for protection and guidance.

Suddenly, she saw a flash of lightning, followed by a loud bang. A tree had fallen on the road, blocking her way. She slammed on the brakes, but it was too late. Her car crashed into the tree, and everything went black.

When she woke up, she was in a hospital bed. She felt a sharp pain in her chest and her head. She looked around and saw her parents and her pastor by her side. They told her what had happened. She had been in a coma for two days, and had suffered a broken rib, a concussion, and a spinal injury. The doctors said she might never walk or sing again.

Anna felt a wave of shock, grief, and anger. How could this happen to her? Why did God allow this to happen? What did she do wrong? How could she fulfill her dream of serving God with music? How could she live a normal life? She felt like giving up on God and on herself.

Her parents and her pastor tried to comfort her and encourage her. They told her that God loved her and had a plan for her. They told her that God was with her and would never leave her nor forsake her. They told her that God could heal her and restore her. They told her that God could use her situation for His glory and for her good. They told her to trust God and not lose hope.

Anna listened to their words, but she felt numb and confused. She wanted to believe them, but she also felt betrayed and abandoned by God. She didn’t know what to do or what to say. She just lay there, staring at the ceiling, wondering if God was really there.

The next day, she received a visit from a special guest. It was one of the children from the orphanage, a little girl named Lily. Lily had heard about Anna’s accident and wanted to see her. She brought a card and a gift for Anna. The card had a drawing of a rainbow and a verse from the Bible: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11) The gift was a CD of Anna’s favorite worship songs, which Lily had recorded with the help of the orphanage staff.

Lily hugged Anna and said, “I’m so sorry that you got hurt, Anna. I miss you so much. You are my favorite teacher and my best friend. You taught me how to love God and how to sing to Him. You always made me happy and hopeful. You are the best thing that ever happened to me. I love you, Anna. And God loves you too. He has a plan for you, Anna. He will make you better, Anna. He will make you happy, Anna. He will make you sing again, Anna. Just trust Him, Anna. He is good, Anna. He is faithful, Anna. He is powerful, Anna. He can do anything, Anna. Nothing is impossible for Him, Anna. Just trust Him, Anna. Please, trust Him.”

Anna looked at Lily’s innocent and sincere face, and felt something stir in her heart. She felt a warmth and a light that she had not felt for a long time. She felt a spark of faith and hope that she had almost lost. She felt a touch of love and grace that she had almost forgotten. She felt a whisper of God’s presence and voice that she had almost ignored.

She realized that Lily was right. God did love her and had a plan for her. God was with her and would never leave her nor forsake her. God could heal her and restore her. God could use her situation for His glory and for her good. God wanted her to trust Him and not lose hope.

She smiled and hugged Lily back. She thanked her for the card and the gift. She told her that she loved her and missed her too. She told her that she was proud of her and grateful for her. She told her that she was a blessing to her and an inspiration to her. She told her that she would trust God and not give up.

She looked up at the ceiling and saw a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds. She felt a peace that surpassed all understanding. She felt a joy that was unspeakable. She felt a strength that was supernatural. She felt a song that was unstoppable.

She closed her eyes and prayed to God. She thanked Him for His love and His plan. She thanked Him for His presence and His promise. She thanked Him for His healing and His restoration. She thanked Him for His glory and His goodness. She thanked Him for Lily and for music. She thanked Him for everything.

She opened her eyes and said, “I trust You, God. I trust You.”

Five years had passed since Anna’s accident. Five years of pain, struggle, and recovery. Five years of faith, hope, and love. Five years of God’s grace, mercy, and power.

Anna had been healed by God. She could walk and sing again. She could live a normal life again. She could fulfill her dream again. She was a worship leader at her church, and a music teacher at the orphanage. She used her talents to glorify God and to bless others. She was a testimony of God’s goodness and faithfulness. She was a vessel of God’s love and joy. She was a child of God and a friend of God.

One day, she received an invitation to sing at a special event. It was a concert for the orphans, organized by a famous Christian singer, who had heard about Anna’s story and wanted to meet her. Anna was thrilled and honored. She accepted the invitation and prepared a song for the occasion.

The day of the concert came. Anna arrived at the venue and met the singer. He was kind and humble, and he praised God for Anna’s miracle. He told her that he was inspired by her faith and courage, and that he wanted to sing with her. He asked her what song she had chosen. She told him that she had written a new song, based on her experience. She showed him the lyrics and the chords. He liked it and agreed to sing it with her.

They went on stage and greeted the audience. They introduced themselves and their song. They said that it was a song of trust, a song of praise, a song of gratitude. They said that it was a song for God, who can do the impossible. They said that it was a song for the orphans, who are loved by God and have a hope and a future. They said that it was a song for everyone, who needs to trust God in their own situation.

They began to sing. Their voices blended in harmony, their hearts united in worship. The music filled the air, the lyrics touched the souls. The audience listened in awe, some smiled, some cried, some raised their hands. The orphans felt special, they felt valued, they felt hopeful. Lily was among them, she was proud of Anna, she was happy for Anna, she was thankful for Anna. She sang along with Anna, she praised God with Anna, she trusted God with Anna.

Reflections

Anna’s story is a powerful example of how God can use a seemingly impossible situation to reveal His glory and His grace. Anna learned to trust God in the midst of her pain and suffering, and God rewarded her with healing and restoration. God also gave her a new purpose and a new platform to share His love and His message with others. Anna became a living testimony of God’s power and faithfulness, and a source of inspiration and encouragement to many.

Anna’s story also shows us that God’s timing is perfect and His ways are higher than our ways. God allowed Anna to go through the accident, not to punish her or to abandon her, but to prepare her and to use her for His greater plan. God knew that Anna’s accident would be the right time for her to grow in her faith and to discover her true calling. God also knew that Anna’s accident would be the right time for her to reach out to the orphans and to the world with her song. God used Anna’s accident to reshape and mold her into the person He wanted her to be.

We can learn from Anna’s story that we should trust God in every situation, no matter how difficult or hopeless it may seem. We should remember that God loves us and has a plan for us, and that He is with us and will never leave us nor forsake us. We should also remember that God can do the impossible, and that He can do anything, He can do everything. We should also remember that God has a perfect timing and a perfect way, and that He makes everything beautiful in its time. We should also remember that God has a purpose and a glory, and that He uses everything for our good and for His praise.

We should trust God, and we will see His salvation. We should trust God, and we will experience His joy. We should trust God, and we will inherit His kingdom. We should trust God, and we will become His friend. We should trust God, and we will be a blessing to others. We should trust God, and we will be like Anna, a child of God.

This was a song lyrics composed by Anna

Verse 1:
When the storm came and hit me hard
I didn't know what to do
I felt so lost and broken
I felt so far from You
But You were there, You never left
You held me in Your arms
You whispered to me, "Don't be afraid
I will keep you from harm"

Chorus:
I trust You, God, I trust You
You are the God of the impossible
You can do anything, You can do everything
You are the God of the impossible
I trust You, God, I trust You

Verse 2:
When the doctors said I couldn't walk
I didn't know how to cope
I felt so hopeless and helpless
I felt so without hope
But You were there, You never changed
You healed me by Your power
You said to me, "Rise up and walk
This is your finest hour"

Chorus:
I trust You, God, I trust You
You are the God of the impossible
You can do anything, You can do everything
You are the God of the impossible
I trust You, God, I trust You

Verse 3:
When the world said I couldn't sing
I didn't know how to live
I felt so empty and silent
I felt so nothing to give
But You were there, You never failed
You gave me back my voice
You sang to me, "Sing for joy
This is your greatest choice"

Chorus:
I trust You, God, I trust You
You are the God of the impossible
You can do anything, You can do everything
You are the God of the impossible
I trust You, God, I trust You

You are the God who loves me
You are the God who cares for me
You are the God who plans for me
You are the God who is with me
You are the God who saves me
You are the God who heals me
You are the God who restores me
You are the God who uses me
You are the God who blesses me
You are the God who rewards me
You are the God who is for me
You are the God who is in me

I trust You, God, I trust You
You are the God of the impossible
You can do anything, You can do everything
